MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations. Students are assigned to represent a nation in an engaging debate regarding the pressing moral issues that the global community faces. The different divisions in MUN cover a diverse range of topics including global health, environment, security, finance, economies, human rights, and development. It helps familiarize students with the UN procedures as well as the variety of global events that occur in the world. In addition, MUN teaches delegates the importance of negotiations and listening to others as they work with other nations in hopes of producing a comprehensive resolution to address the topic of debate. MUN is also an enriching experience as it encourages students to investigate and be considerate of perspectives other than their own.

ottomun is the largest middle school and high school student-run conference in Turkey. we are proud to announce that the 3rd prestigious ottomun conference will be held between March 14-16, 2020. ottomun takes pride in providing a formal and professional environment where students challenge themselves to debate some of the world’s most controversial and intriguing events. The conference by itself costs 110 USD. However, the whole package including airfare, transfer, and accommodation will cost 1850 Turkish Lira

Registration is available till December 31, 2019. However, as the registration number reaches the conference capacity, registration will be closed.

Delegates should familiarize themselves with the background guides written by their committee directors, which will be posted on the committees’ respective pages. In addition, delegates are encouraged to do additional research elsewhere to learn more about their nation’s policies and interests. We’ve compiled a wealth of resources on this page. At ottomun, delegates within committees may represent their respective country individually or on double delegation bases.

ottomun 2020 may have a delegation cap, in order to maintain our tradition of excellence while accommodating as many delegates from around the world as we can. We encourage you to register early to avoid having to deal with a waitlist!

The dress code for all committee sessions is Western business attire. This means a dress shirt and pants, suit jacket, tie, and dress shoes for gentlemen and a smart suit or dress for ladies. Running shoes, jeans, and other casual wear are not acceptable in committee. For the delegate social, we urge you to use your discretion in dressing comfortably but appropriately. ottomun reserves the right to turn away delegates at the door who are not dressed appropriately at our discretion.

Yes, awards are presented to delegates who demonstrate a keen interest and passion on the topics of discussion as well as a strength in the quality of their arguments throughout the debate. Award recipients will have distinguished themselves by demonstrating leadership through their combined efforts with others. Position papers are highly recommended for delegates seeking an award..
